This 16th century Coaching Inn located at the entrance of Stockbridge High Street is a traditional old style pub serving good food and great ales with a warm ambience. There is also accommodation in the newly refurbished stable block and in the main building ( see their website).  Its a very charming location with the river Test nearby, plenty of walks, places to see and of course the High Street which has an interesting mix of shops.

The menu has a good variety of local fare: venison, rabbit, pheasant, pigeon and local trout plus the usual favourite baggers and mash which one of our party chose and said they were delicious. The Roasted Winter vegetables were served with toasted pumpkin seeds, rocket and spinach then topped with goats cheese and mozzarella. Then there was the Beef lasagna- chefs special and  a very tasty Steak & Gales HSB Pie.

Just to check out the extensive snack menu I chose a Bacon & Brie Baguette which was perfect.
Only two desserts were ordered, which we shared: Spiced Mulled Wine Sundae and Tiramisu and London Porter Cheesecake, both delicious!
We drank two bottles of wine but alas I didn't take note, since being the driver I "enjoyed" a Tomato Juice!!

Most main courses are between £8-£9, the game courses approx £11 - good value, desserts £4.50- £5.50, generous servings.

We were all pleased with our lunch and service.

The White Hart Inn is part of the Fullers Hotels & Inns group as is The Wykeham Arms in Winchester.  As we have enjoyed both of these pubs hopefully the others must be of a similar standard and well worth a visit.  Check out their website for locations.
