Visited January 2009

Four of us went for lunch to this charming Edwardian Manor and as one would expect it is situated on five acres of rolling lawns, flower borders and even has a lake.  There is also a cottage garden where fruit, vegetables and flowers are grown for the hotel & restaurant.  I look forward to visit again in the spring and summer as I'm certain it will be a sight to see.

We were seated in the large conservatory overlooking the gardens and selected from the daily menu of various choices having first perused the fantastic display of Hot and Cold Puddings, we knew full well we would be 'needing' three courses, especially our men!

The Monday to Saturday lunch offer has a choice of 5 starters, 4 mains and endless desserts plus a selection of cheeses.  £10.50 (2 courses)  £13.50 (3 courses).  Pleased to say we were immediately served a jug of water and freshly baked warm rolls whilst we studied the menu.

Starters: Chicken & Ham Terrine with organic fig Chutney, Prawn cocktail with Marie Rose Sauce, Smoked Haddock twice baked soufflé.

Mains: Marinated Fillet of Pork, Pan fried Pheasant Breast in a red wine sauce, Fillet of Sea Bass with roast pepper sauce, Goats cheese, tomato, pesto and mushroom bake.

All main courses were served with vegetables of the day.

Desserts:  Bannofi Pie, Meringues with cream, Eton Mess, Fruit Crumble, Crème Bruleé,  to name but a few.

Well worth a visit - the scenic drive through The New Forest National Park adds to the pleasure. It is recommended to book in advance as this is a popular spot.  Hope you enjoy it too.
