Visited October 2008

We visited this unspoilt 18th century country pub on a lovely autumnal day in October. Great spot for walking, either before or after lunch.  The pub is full of charm with a friendly atmosphere and very welcoming staff.  Above a roaring fire was the daily Specials Board which changes regularly.  There is also a separate blackboard with puddings which are all home made and at £4.95 for a good size portion we can thoroughly recommend!  Sorry, thinking of puddings I'm jumping forward from our main course choices!

Two enjoyed slices of Wiltshire Ham with 2 eggs, chips and salad, £8.50.  CJ loved the Cottage Pie with fresh vegetables - apparently one of the best she'd ever had, £8.25.  Lastly, I chose off the Specials Board, a lamb, pork and lentil Korma with wild rice and poppadums £7.95.    All generous portions and well presented.   Their Menu is full of good pub grub at reasonable prices and as I mentioned before leave room for a pudding.  We shared the cheesecake of the day which was lemon with fresh cream, masses of it and very yummy.

We had an excellent Rose  - La Lande Cinsault from South West France at £14.50, three coffees and out total bill was £17.50 per head including tip.  We recommend!

The higher the "Yummy" factor, the better the food & service.  The higher the number of £ signs the more expensive.  ( Roughly one £ sign = £5 per head )
