Visited April 2008

Bighton is a small Hampshire village so we were disappointed that although this pub is small and certainly untouched by a chain it didn't have the anticipated olde worlde charm.

We visited on a Tuesday lunchtime using the Times Eat Out for £10 vouchers that my friends had collected.  There was a choice of 5 starters, 5 main courses and 4 puddings so from a value for money point of view 3 courses for £10 was good value.

Our choices were one pate´, two coriander and carrot soup and two had crushed filo coated king prawns with sweet chilli dip.  Our main courses, tuna lime and coriander fish cake, steak and ale pie, vegetable lasagne and chicken skewers in mushroom sauce on a bed of rice.  Puddings were raspberry and white chocolate roulade, pear and hazelnut charlotte, warmed summer fruits in meringue nest all served with cream or ice cream and lastly chocolate ice cream.

Reasonable sized portions and we did all manage three courses!  Adequate taste, some freshly made, some frozen, soup was bland and too thick.  Small adequate wine menu and satisfactory service.
