Revisited April 2009

I first visited this 15th century Coaching Inn a year ago; I was very pleased to do a return visit as both the food and service were good.  They were very busy, it was on a Friday but all was running efficiently with friendly staff.  We sat in the bar area which was very cosy, the old beams and high back chairs adding to its charm.

We chose from the 2 course special lunch menu @ £12.95.  Choices of 5 starters and 5 mains so a good variety.  For starters we chose  Warm Goats Cheese on toast with  caramelised peppers and onions served with salad leaves, and Duck Confit Terrine with balsamic dressing with a garnish of salad leaves.

For main courses we selected: Sirloin steak with hand cut chips and Beef & Red wine pie with cheesy mash. Both were delicious so I have now upped the quality of food to 3/10!

Visited March 2008

It was recommended that I visit this restaurant by my walking friends, The Test Way is close by, but as I'm sure I went on one of their bad days perhaps I will revisit some time in the future!

The Three Cups Inn is a charming 14th Century restaurant/pub/hotel in a perfect countryside setting. The restaurant was busy and we were seated at the far end near the kitchen which was a pity as cooking smells were wafting towards our table. It looked a rather pokey kitchen for such a busy restaurant, perhaps more extractor fans are needed.  They were short staffed so I appreciated there was a problem keeping everyone happy!

We selected from the 2 courses for £9.50 menu.  2 starters, Pumpkin with Coconut & Chilly Soup (no pic),  Sardines with Pesto Sauce (shows a small serving but I already ate half before I remembered I had to take a photo!!) The 2 main dishes were Sirloin Steak served on a bed of hand cut chips (chips were overcooked) and I chose Salmon served on mushy peas.  I ordered as an extra dish, a salad of green beans, olives and feta cheese, a very generous serving.

Judging by the number of obvious regulars it must usually be a good venue and therefore worth another visit.

5/5 = Cannot be improved upon, 4/5 = Very good, 3/5 = Good, 2/5 = Satisfactory, 1/5 = Poor, 0/5 = Terrible

The higher the "Yummy" factor, the better the food & service.  The higher the number of £ signs the more expensive.  ( Roughly one £ sign = £5 per head )
